Fake, Or Right From The Factory?

Fake, Or Real?

As the editor of Custom Classic Trucks, some people might jump to the conclusion that I'm only interested in customized classic trucks.

Having collected, and utilized just about anything a person can use to transport their body from one point to another I've come to own and appreciate a lot of different vehicles from an Austin Mini Cooper S to a Big-Window '56 Ford. In between there's been big old Peterbilts, to little 'ol pre-war Schwinn bicycles. Because of this past I've spent a lot of time reseaching what is a factory correct part, or option from an era, and how rare is it? Beyond this point when someone is search of the real deal, there always comes the question if it's a fake. Finding a fake example when it comes to classic trucks doesn't mean the guy that is selling it is a fraud, because anything can happen to a truck within a period of 50 years. Unless the guy is the original owner, and two, he hasn't contracted "old-timers" disease you might be able to determine you are looking at a truck that is real. A good example to illustrate my point can be seen when one picks up the latest reference book on old trucks, and the author has chosen to show recent photographs of what they claim is a bone stock truck. Take for example a book that just crossed my desk to review that has a '56 Ford F-100 with a small window and stainless steel Custom Cab moldings I've only seen on Custom Cab Big-Windows. I don't trust that this is a real truck. The only thing that could convince me is if I saw Ford archival photos from 1956. Enough about this, my next blog will be on "How-to tell if your popcorn is too dry."
